Yes they work, once you have them set up right and the sheep are used to them. Not sold on them for in-lamb ewes though. The work best at low rates only with whole cereals, which isn't the ideal feed for in-lamb ewes unless you're getting protein in from somewhere else in the diet grazing turnips or Spring grass? The other downside, as you point out, is the cost of buying them of course. Each feeder would buy you a very good snacker.

The problem with any cake though is if rain blows in to the feed slit then it's blocked til you unblock it. Even damp air will make the cake stick. We have 3 feeders now and I do like them, they can be used as creep feeders with pellets at free access, feeding hoggs and feeding ewes. Or as cattle feeders. They call them lick feeders over here With cereal grain cheap at present it's viable to give the sheep or cattle a bit as the prices are good at the moment Location Mendips Somerset. Feeding oats and hipro soya through ours and comes through well, ewe cake won't go through it I think you'd have to buy it in smaller pellets. Tempted to use it if I have ewe lambs left with twins at end of lambing, ewe feed in one side and use the creep option for lambs on other, could work very well Jackson4 Member. Location Wensleydale.
They can superb for feeding energy ie barley when the sheep arent getting enough from pasture or forage at pasture. Easy to fill, can get plenty a sheep to one feeder etc. They are alot more thinking about than just going out with the snacker though and man and beast need to learn the best way with them. I use them for feeding barley in the backend to gimmer lambs when the grass is gone and are on haylage, or on rough pasture etc. They are then trained for the rest of there life if i need to use it.
Havent used it for protein pellets yet people seem to have more problems when they start feeding pellets. Some people locally say they get on ok with them inside, i found i was till they really got onto them and then started gorging themselves. MJT how do you mix the hipro with the oats and does it flow ok in the feeder? Do you have the newer version which tends to not get blocked up as much? Bury the Trash Member Mixed Farmer. The feeding bit is the difficult bit to fabricate but the rest is just hopper, and if they mods for wet windy weather? Yep my concerns are the same in wet weather They mainly use them in dry part of season so rain less of a concern but I'd like the trough to stay dry There's alot sold as trailer units here as well I find the folks in my alliance have good feedback.
I know most of the high scores in events and tournaments are with multiple duplicate 3 teams i see your 4 namahage team but as long as i can finish nit really worrying.
I keep 30 roster spots open for feeders so i can feed 3 groups of 10 at a time to the hero i am currently trying to level. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Basically when you think about it feeding lesser cards to power up your major cards is nothing short of card cannibalism…. Boril has his place.
I, personally, think one Boril is enough. I routinely feed dupe s1 4 stars. I like Boril as a defense, him and Cyperian. Have them spaced so that everyone gets covered at some point. Like 3 gatos.
